Palmetto Green Energy FAQ's
Palmetto Green Energy Frequently asked questions

Is a Palmetto Green Energy System really cost-effective?
Yes. Your Palmetto Green EnergySystem will supply you with Alternative renewable energy or Green electricity, which will cost you less than the rates you are currently paying. You will start out paying less and over the course of a long term contract you will stabilize your energy costs and pay significantly less over time as energy prices continue to rise. BioOil or Green Electricity with Palmetto Green Energy is a great investment and it is low-risk with huge savings.

Is utility power really cost-effective?
No. Your utility charges more than you would pay if you had a Palmetto Green Energy System. Utility rates are constantly increasing, and have increased 5.5% annually since 1970. As you pay your utility bill you do not gain equity in an asset. Paying for utility power is equivalent to having an infinite term-loan with a variable interest rate, which always increases.

What does a Palmetto Green Energy System do for the environment?
Your system will reduce the demand on existing fossil-fuel power plants, thereby reducing pollutants and global-warming CO2 emissions. The EPA says, "Using Alternative Renewable Fuel (BioOil) to replace the use of traditional fossil fuel energy sources can prevent the release of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere."

Will the utility company really pay me for my excess Green electricity?
Yes and no. If you are Grid Connected, upon installation of your Palmetto Green Energy System, you enter into a Net Metering Agreement with your utility company. Throughout the year, you are given credit for every kWh that you produce. This credit is worth exactly what you would have been charged for that same kWh. At the end of the year, if you have produced as much as you have used, you will have reduced your electric bill to zero. You will only be responsible for paying the minimum charges for having a meter. However, it is utility company dependent if you will be paid for any credits remaining on your account after your 12 month billing cycle. Consequently, we size your system to meet your annual usage.

What happens to the excess Green electricity that I do not use?
Any excess electricity produced will go back into the grid through your meter, running it backwards. You are credited for each kWh produced at the same rate that you would be charged.

Are there any tax incentives?
Yes. Currently there are very significant federal Investment Tax Credits (ITC) and state incentives for the purchase and installation of green energy systems. Please consult your accountant for professional tax advice.

What are the major components of a Palmetto Green Energy System?
A Palmetto Green Energy System is made up of a Mobile BioOil Processor (MBOP) which is a Portable Machine that runs on cellulosic material: Three products are produced: BioOil (60-75% by weight), char (15-20% wt.) and non-condensable gases (10-20% wt.). BioOil is not a fossil fuel, it is a green renewable energy fossil fuel substitute. MBOP’s can be paired with quiet and efficient generators to produce large amounts of green electricity.

What if there is a black out?
If you are not grid dependent you will not lose power from your genset. If you are grid connected you may or may not lose power depending on how much electricity your system produces.

Do I need batteries?
You do not need batteries if you are tied into the public utility grid. Essentially your utility company stores your solar electricity for free.

How much power do I use?
You can find out how much electricity you use by looking on your utility bill or calling your electric utility. It is very helpful to get the last 12 months of electric usage in kilowatt hours (kWh). Your electric utility can provide you with this information over the phone.
